We are proud to announce that on September 18th, 2017 Winooski City Council passed a resolution that celebrates our partnership with Welcoming America in recognizing Welcoming Week 2017. In addition, this resolution also promotes the Winooski Peace Initiative’s recognition of the United Nations International Peace Day.
The City of Winooski has celebrated Welcoming Week for the last three years. During this annual series of events, communities bring together immigrants and U.S.-born residents to raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone – including new Americans. The City of Winooski continues this tradition as we celebrate the inclusiveness of our residents, friends, and neighbors.
“Now, Therefore, the City of Winooski does hereby proclaim the week of September 18th as Welcoming Week, and we stand also in observance of the International Day of Peace on September 21st, as we stand united to commemorate the strength, courage, and resilience of the millions of refugees around the world; including Refugees who have come to call Winooski home.”
Please join the Winooski Peace Initiative and the rest of the world in recognizing the United Nations International Day of Peace and its theme of respect, safety, and dignity for all. This event will take place in Winooski’s Rotary Park at 7 pm on Thursday, September 21st. There will be a candlelight vigil and a chance to meet your neighbors – we hope to see you there.
