The Winooski Hotel Group and the City of Winooski are working with LE Environmental LLC (specializing in environmental due diligence for commercial, institutional, industrial, and brownfields properties) to conduct an environmental impact report around the proposed hotel site on Winooski Falls Way. Alan Liptak, CGP, PG, EP & Senior Geologist at LE Environmental provided the City with an outline of work:
“We will be doing environmental drilling to plan for soil management during the hotel construction. Since soil will need to be moved off-site, we will be testing its quality so that we can plan for appropriate destinations for the soil that is leaving the site. Additionally, we will be installing three groundwater monitoring wells to gauge the groundwater quality, and installing two soil gas wells to gauge the soil gas quality and make sure there is not a vapor encroachment problem … and then will return to the site one day the following week to collect groundwater and soil gas samples.”
Drilling is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26th and Thursday, April 27th. Starting the week of April 17th, LE Environmental will pre-mark the site for drilling. They will collect samples the week of May 1st. The City asks that patrons and pedestrians of Winooski Falls Way to use caution while this work is being conducted. This environmental study is supported in part through the assistance of EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant funds provided by the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission.
