In an effort to improve pedestrian safety, The City of Winooski Department of Public works has scheduled the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacons (or “RRFBs”) with the support of GoliathTech at the Rte. 15 (East Allen Street) & Dion Street crosswalk. Work is scheduled to begin at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 11th 2017 through 7 AM on Thursday, October 12th. Traffic will be altered in both east and westbound directions to one lane.
Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacons (RRFB) can enhance safety by reducing crashes between vehicles and pedestrians at unsignalized intersections and mid-block pedestrian crossings by increasing driver awareness of potential pedestrian conflict. The RRFBs are pedestrian activated by a push button.
This scheduled work is part of our collaboration with the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission and the Vermont Department of Transportation via the City of Winooski Transportation Master Plan.
